Job description

Welcome to E.ON – and become part of the energy transition. Together with our customers and partners, we make sure that electricity and heat are produced, used, and recycled in smarter ways. If you have passion and believe in the power of collaboration, E.ON is the place for you.

About us
Within our Technology & Innovation department, we develop the network components of the future – such as cables and transformers – to reduce our climate impact, promote circular material flows, and reach our net-zero goals. Our mission is not only to deliver electricity, but also to contribute to a sustainable society for future generations.

About the position
Electrification is key to reaching society’s climate goals. For this reason, University West haslaunched the graduate school Electrification for a Sustainable Energy System, in close collaboration with partners including E.ON and Uppsala University.

As an industrial PhD student, you will:

  • Be enrolled at and receive your degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Uppsala University.
  • Receive supervision from researchers at University West, Uppsala University, and E.ON.
  • Combine doctoral studies and coursework with independent dissertation work within our organization.

Your research will focus on how cable systems can become more sustainable and circular. Among other things, you will:

  • Identify and analyze circular material and installation solutions with a reduced climate footprint.
  • Develop innovative methods for cable deinstallation and recycling.
  • Contribute knowledge that strengthens our and the industry’s ability to make sustainable decisions.

You will also share your results in various forums, contribute to other projects within E.ON, and occasionally teach at the university. This is a unique opportunity to combine research with real-world impact in the energy industry.

Your background
We are looking for someone with a Master’s degree in a relevant field, who is passionate about sustainability, development, and innovation. This means you have completed at least 240 higher education credits (ECTS), of which at least 60 are at the advanced level, or equivalent.

You are curious and proactive, unafraid to challenge conventional methods to find new ways forward. Your strong communication skills enable you to share ideas and results clearly, both verbally and in writing.

At E.ON, technology and innovation are part of our everyday work. We believe you are curious about new technology, eager to learn, and see change as an opportunity to discover smarter, more sustainable solutions. You also contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing, support, and collaboration – helping the entire team succeed.

What it’s like to work with us
You will join a team with a broad responsibility for technology and sustainability. The group includes project managers from various areas of our electricity network operations and colleagues with deep expertise in method development. Together with specialists in different power grid components, we drive change across the entire energy system.

This mix means we learn a lot from each other, and that everyone takes ownership of their area and pushes it forward with great commitment. Your manager, Robert, and the rest of the team are always there to support and coach you – but we also value autonomy and initiative. You’ll have a high degree of freedom in your work, while always being backed by a collaborative and supportive team.

At E.ON, inclusion is key to driving the energy transition forward. We want you to feel truly welcome here! We strive to provide a safe and meaningful workplace with great opportunities for professional and personal growth. We constantly challenge ourselves to ensure an open and inclusive environment where you can thrive.

We are committed to building a more sustainable energy system – and we believe our employees’ personal sustainability is just as important. That’s why we offer excellent benefits to help you stay healthy and maintain a good work-life balance. These include shorter working hours than the industry standard, health insurance, free healthcare, and much more.

Warmly welcome to apply and join us on the journey toward a sustainable society! The application deadline is October 20.
